Schemes and Scams
Your experiences on the Internet should be satisfying and rewarding. Unfortunately, the Internet is not the safest place to do business. Frauds and scams abound. Here are a few simple steps you can take to ensure that your Internet purchases and sales are easy, and safe.
What you can do:
- Deal locally with folks you can meet in person
- Verify the identity of people who contact you
- Always talk to inquirers on the telephone and beware those who will only do business via e-mail.
- Reconsider doing business with individuals who are reluctant to answer your questions.
- Do not let vehicles or documents out of your sight until you have the cash in hand
- Do not assume checks or money orders are legitimate until cleared by your bank. Just because the bank has cashed the check for you, does not mean it is a legitimate check. Cashier checks take 30 days to determine if they are legitimate.
- Never accept a cashier's check that is over the price of the item on sale. Do not send anybody banking information, or the remainder of a check made out for more than the price. See more about this classic scam here:

- Never wire funds via Western Union or any other wire service - anyone who asks you to do so is a scammer.
- Be especially careful when dealing with individuals/companies from the outside the USA. RVTradeNet.com allows postings only from the USA.
